WIld Coast CliviasAbout UsWe have many unique & superior Transkei habitat Clivia miniata & C. nobilis clones. The famous wild blush Apple Blossom clones are one of our specialities. Wayne has been breeding with Transkei Miniata & Nobilis for many years. We have recently added a number of first class yellow and green Clivias to the collection thanks to Gerrit Van Wyk of Cape Town, who kindly donated his extensive collection to us. The expansion of our breeding program is currently underway & we are looking forward to some exciting results in the near future. Wild Coast Clivias is situated in coastal forest on the edge of the Transkei. Based in the small seaside town of Morgan Bay this specialist, boutique Clivia nursery is very close to wild Miniata & Nobilis habitat. The southernmost Clivia Miniata occur a couple of kilometers from our nursery & we find ourselves almost in the center of the Nobilis distribution range. We have been based in Morgan Bay since 2000 but the Wild Coast Clivia collection, comprising the Carole Haselau Memorial Biodiversity/Heritage collection, started in earnest in 2005. As we are a boutique nursery we have had to specialise & although we have Clivias for every taste our long term goal is to breed world class Interspecifics by using our extensive collection of heritage material which, until recently mainly involved breeding with our extensive Nobilis collection. |
We feel having to wait for 5-10 years for a plant to flower is extreme & that this should not be necessary. One of our goals moving forward is to shorten the length of time necessary for flowering by using specific short-flowering genetics. As a result many of our newer hybrids will flower in approx. 3 years. Enhancing the stature & attractiveness of leaf form by incorporating select Chinese & Japanese variegated clones is also one of our long term goals.
